GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) The Paraeducator will assist the classroom teacher in providing instruction and supervision of developmentally delayed pre-school age and developmentally delayed Kindergarten children in a variety of instructional and non-instructional settings.
2) DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:
The certified special education teacher and the special education director/ building principal.
3) MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
The ability to relate in a positive manner with children, supervisory staff, parents and other teachers. (Team player)
Work with children 1 x 1, or in small groups, as directed by the teacher(s).
Make home visits with the teacher and act as an interpreter when necessary.
Assist the teacher in developmental screens, evaluations and meetings with parents and staff.
Ability to work patiently and calmly with students who exhibit challenging behaviors.
4) QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be bilingual in Spanish/English.
Have a two-year degree or the credit equivalent; or pass the ETS test.
Willingness or desire to work with children with developmental delays.
Have a Food Handlers Permit.
Lift up to 60 lbs.
Assist with the hygiene of students.
Change diapers.
Willing to be trained to use health related aids/assistive technology. (feeding tube, voice activated devices)
Demonstrate responsible behavior and independent work habits.
*Changes or alterations to the above may be adjusted by the supervisors as deemed necessary.
