DESCRIPTION:

This position’s responsibility, under the direction of the Food Service Director, is to assist in the successfully operation of nutritious and wholesome meals following District procedures and standards and under required food safety and sanitary conditions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.     High school diploma or GED

2.     Ability to accurately compute basic math functions, to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals

3.     Ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision

4.     Be punctual, dependable, maintain good personal hygiene and have a positive, team player attitude

5.     Establish and maintain cooperative working relations with others

6.     Demonstrates ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators while maintaining confidentiality

7.     Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds

8.     Food handlers permit or willingness to obtain within 14 days of employment and maintain current card thereafter

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Understand and comply with Federal, State, and local requirements for meal reimbursement
  2. Follow verbal and written instructions
  3. Successfully complete classes required for position and attend meetings, and/or workshops related to position
  4. Maintain required daily records, reports, reconciliations and submit to Food Service Director
  5. Cook, setup, serve and cleanup all meals
  6. Prepare, deliver and serve fruit and vegetables for the entire Elementary Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program
  7. Setup condiments for the day
  8. Wipe down salad bars between groups.  Replenish fruit, vegetables and condiments as needed
  9. Dishwashing all kitchen items
  10. Clean and sanitize sinks and counters.
  11. Sweep and mop kitchen floors
  12. Prepare food items for the breakfast service
  13. Complete tasks within time allocated
  14. Uphold safety standards
  15. May relieve or assist other unit employees in higher meal preparation tasks to meet emergencies or as necessary to maintain the operation of the cafeteria unit or as assigned by the Food Service Director and her/his designee
  16. Fulfill other related duties as assigned or requested by supervisor

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to stand and walk for prolonged periods; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; carry, push, stoop, reach and ability to handle and perform fingering functions.  Required to shift tasks and priorities; experience frequent interruptions; requires flexibility and adaptability; perform repetitive tasks; requires individual initiative and teamwork; ability to communicate with students and adults in some difficult situations.  Requires effective decision making and problem solving; and excellent listening skills.  May be exposed to general cleaning chemicals.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, lift, carry, move about, hear and speak. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning.  It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.

 

The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
